Associated countries in Southeast Asia, ASEAN, concerned by the development of upheaval that occurred in Egypt. ASEAN countries will also assist each other in rescue citizens trapped in this crisis.
"ASEAN Member Countries to follow closely and with concern over developments in the Arab Republic of Egypt," said a statement issued by the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Friday, February 4, 2011.
Demonstrations in Egypt ended clashes in recent days. It was reported eight people were killed and hundreds were injured. Mass anti-government Mubarak today held a demonstration last great they say will be able to overthrow Mubarak from power.
Mubarak said he would not resign until the general election in September.
In a statement, the ASEAN Member countries expressed hope that Egypt is able to overcome the various challenges faced through peaceful and democratic manner.
